Akwa United takes on Bendel Insurance in Nigerian league opening match
The 2021 champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will be facing the newly promoted Bendel Insurance in the opening match of the 2022/2023 NPFL season today, Sunday.
Recall that the body in charge of the league, Interim Management committee (IMC) has grouped the 20 teams participating into two groups each in view of the abridged-league format of the new season.
The abridged-league format which was earlier a bone of contention between the IMC and the club owners, according to the football authority was a child of necessity in a bid to meet up with the international calendar of football.
While Akwa United also known as Promise Keepers are currently being tutored by Coach Ayodeji Ayeni, Bendel Insurance who are known as Benin Arsenals are being managed by Coach Monday Odigie.
The match will kick off at 4pm at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Akwa Ibom.
Meanwhile, the match, which will be the only affairs of the NPFL this week will be broadcast live on the NTA.
The league is expected to start in full next week when all the 20 teams will get into action.
