Kwara govt commends health partners over commitment to malaria intervention programme

Agric ministry trains 40 extension workers in Kwara

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), trains 40 Agricultural Extension Officers in Kwara State.

The workers, drawn from the 16 Local Government Areas of the State, were trained on extension tools, methodology and selected Agricultural value chains.

The event, which took place at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters, has in attendance stakeholders from the Agricultural Sector, Agricultural experts, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), N-power beneficiaries and the Ministry’s extension workers, among others.

While declaring open the training session, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon said that the capacity training would expose the trainees to the modern method of Agricultural practices and extension service delivery.

Hon. Gideon assured that the State Government has capable extension officers that would facilitate seamless transfer of the acquired skills to the grass root farmers and value-chain processors in achieving sustainable Development Goals.

For his part, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, represented by Mr. Aliu Issa Kabir explained that the training is aimed at reducing post harvest losses and also to achieve food security in the country.

Earlier, the Managing Director, Kwara State Agricultural Development Project (KWADP), Alhaji Tunde Salami disclosed that the training was organised to train the trainers on modern methods of rice production, cassava production, maize farming and aquaculture farming.
