Again, NUEE issues threat to shut down national grid

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), has again issued threat to close down the national grid.

According to the employees of the electricity organization, the ultimatum of two weeks given to the federal government to put an end to the crisis had elapsed.

The zonal organizing secretary, North West of NUEE, Comrade Dukat Ayuba, while addressing journalists in Kaduna on Thursday, revealed that while the concerned stakeholders were still negotiating, the close down of the national grid was imminent.

He has described the privatization of the electricity sector as a scam.

He explained that nine (9) years after, no changes have been recorded in its activities, especially to those who are using electricity.

He further said, “That was why we kicked against privitazing the distribution sector, because the investors don’t have the capacity and expertise. As committed Nigerians, we advised government against it. But the government was hell bent on doing so.”

He said those who invested in the electricity sector were still working with obsolete equipment from 35, 40, and 50 back years.

He said that the arrival of the investors, would ease the replacement of obsolete equipment but nothing had been done.

He said it’s regrettable that the country still accumulates 5,000 megawatts of electricity.

A member of Central Executive Committee Wisdom Nwachukwu, said that the federal government is planning to sell the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Vice President, North West, NUEE,
Ado Gaya, while narrating further, said that the 16 months requested by the workers of the electricity is their legitimate incomes which involved 55,000 workers.
