The interim Head Coach of Super Eagles of Nigeria, Coach Austin Eguavoen will be looking forward to repeating the record he set at the 2006 AFCON.

Eguavoen, 56, is the only man to have coached Nigeria to win all three matches in the group stage of the AFCON since the country started participating in 1963.

In 2006 AFCON, Eagles under ‘Cerezo’ defeated Ghana 1-0 in the opening game, edged Zimbabwe 2-0 in the second game and recorded a 2-1 win over the Teranga Lions of Senegal in the third game.

Eguavoen would later go on to clinch bronze medals in the competition which was hosted and won by Egypt after defeating Senegal 1 nil in the third-place final.

Super Eagles, who have now reached the Round of 16 with a game to spare will take on Guinea Bissau in the last group stage game on Wednesday, January 19.

Until his appointment as the interim Coach, Eguavoen was the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
