Adeleke, Osun PDP endorse Tinubu for second term

…resolve to remain in PDP after alleged failed APC defection

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, has announced its endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

This resolution came during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Oke-Fia, Osogbo, where Adeleke and prominent PDP leaders expressed their commitment to remain within the party.

It would be recalled that there were rumors of Governor Adeleke’s planned defection from the PDP amidst consultations with party officials, many of whom were said to be willing to follow him to a new political party.

However, his proposed move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) faced considerable opposition from key players in the Osun chapter of the APC.

In a communiqué issued post-meeting, signed by Adeleke, Deputy Kola Adewusi, Speaker Adewale Egbedun, former Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and 24 other PDP leaders, it was expressed that local political sentiments and grassroots support are vital in shaping their future actions.

The communiqué further clarified that the idea of defection did not stem from Adeleke himself, but rather was met with backlash from APC members who critiqued him publicly. Despite some displeasure among PDP members regarding the defection discussions, loyalty to Adeleke as a leader prevailed.

The party urged that “Osun State is the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which makes the President the son of Osun State. Therefore, the PDP in Osun State hereby adopts and endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.”

Moreover, the communiqué reaffirmed support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign for the 2026 governorship election under the PDP banner and called for unity within the party as they advance the administration’s Five Point Agenda.
