Adeleke eases Osun civil servants’ work hour over Ramadan, Lent

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has approved a reduction in working hours for public servants in the state in observance of the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

According to the statement, civil servants will now close work by 2:00pm from Monday to Thursday, while work will end by 1:00pm on Fridays throughout the fasting season.

The new schedule takes effect from February 19.

A circular dated February 19 and titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods”, signed by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, reaffirmed the governor’s approval.

The circular stated that the adjustment forms part of the state government’s welfare measures for its workforce.

“As part of the welfare packages of the state government for its workforce, the Executive Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved that public servants should close work by 2:00pm from Mondays to Thursdays, while work will close by 1:00pm on Fridays during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only,” the circular read.

It added that the gesture is intended to allow workers ample time for prayers and spiritual reflection, particularly as the state prepares for the forthcoming gubernatorial election later this year.

However, the directive excludes workers in essential services, especially medical personnel, due to the critical and life-saving nature of their responsibilities.
