Accident kills 2 policemen, injures 17 others in plateau

Two police officers have lost their lives, while 17 others have sustained various degrees of injuries in a road accident, the Borno State Police Command confirmed.

The police officers had accident while on their way to Uyo for the 2022 Police Games on Monday along Hawan Kibo road in Plateau.

The spokesperson of the police command made this revelation in a statement, on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

He said that the affected uniform men were set to represent Zone 15 which comprises of Yobe and Borno commands at the Biannual Police Games in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

The police public relations officer added that the road accident happened due to failure of the brake of the vehicle.

The spokesperson added that those who lost their lives were female constables.

“The Commissioner of Police, Borno Command, regrets the unfortunate accident, noting that the personnel who lost their lives and the injured victims have been conveyed back to Maiduguri,” he added.

Shatambaya further said befitting burial would done for the deceased victims of the accident while those who sustained injury are currently receiving medical attention in various hospitals in Maiduguri.

“The commissioner of police who led a delegation of the management team of Borno command, commiserated with the families of the deceased officers.

“He equally used the opportunity to wish the injured personnel quick recovery.

“He also prayed for the remaining team members that continued with their journey to participate in the ongoing I-G biennial Police games, journey mercies,” he said.
