Abuja police chase bandits from forests, rescue 16 victims
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said that several bandits have been chased away from and 16 kidnapped victims rescued in some forests, sharing borders with Kogi and Abuja.
A source revealed that the police officers who acted on intelligence report, occupied the forests, Sunday, January 1, 2023.
The source said there have been reports of kidnappings in Anguwan Yango, Gulida, Chakumi, and Paikon Bassa villages in the Abaji area council.
A source revealed that the heavily-armed bandits went into an intense gun battle with the operatives of the police for hours.
The source however expressed happiness for the victory of the police over the bandits, as 16 hostages were rescued from the captivity, and the bandits ran away for their own lives.
The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, added that the victims who were rescued had already met with their families.
“The rescued victims were taken to a hospital and afterwards reunited with their families,” she explained.
