Abia Gov Otti pledges support for Tinubu’s economic policies

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reaffirmed his support for the economic policies of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that their friendship predates party politics.

During a recent meeting with former Governor and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, along with Senator Chris Adighije, Otti expressed his belief that the president’s economic decisions, while currently challenging, are essential for Nigeria’s recovery.

Otti criticized the previous fuel subsidy regime, labeling it a scam, and insisted that its removal had been overdue. “When you talk about supporting President Tinubu, the President and I are very good friends… what Mr. President is doing has always been my position for a long time,” he stated, recalling his previous arguments for the abolition of fuel subsidies.

Addressing the distractions of future elections, Otti remarked, “People in 2025 are talking of 2027… you can’t even talk about 2027 because there is no guarantee that you would go beyond 2025.”

He urged focus on the present and emphasized that his administration is working diligently for the people, highlighting ongoing infrastructural transformations in Aba.

Otti also expressed gratitude for a recent generous donation to the state government, illustrating the economic revival in the region.

He elaborated on plans to enhance nighttime economic activities, stating, “We want the economy to operate like Lagos and Abuja where people hardly sleep.”

Senator Kalu praised Otti’s contributions to road infrastructure and reaffirmed their friendship, stating, “You have done well for our State. Thank you very much.”
