AbdulRazaq to new LGA chiefs: Be conscious of your legacies

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Kwara State Governor, has urged newly elected chairpersons and vice chairpersons of the 16 local government areas of the state to be sensitive to the realities of the current economic situation in the country.

It would be recalled that the governor, in the wee hour of Monday, swore in newly elected chairpersons and vice chairpersons for the 16 LGAs of Kwara State.

The governor, while inaugurating the newly-elected council chairpersons on Monday at the Government House, Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin, charged them to work with all and to serve the people diligently.

However, the governor, while speaking shortly after swearing in the council chiefs, said as the country is in a transitive phase of economic reforms, it is important for them to set realistic goals and be fair to everyone in their locality.

He said, “Set realistic goals for yourself. Be conscious of your legacies. Be fair to everyone and to yourself. Attend to the needs of the people, and be open to positive engagements across board.”

“Our country is in a transitive phase as our economy undergoes reforms. This has brought some inconveniences for the people. Please be sensitive to the realities of the time. Don’t indulge yourselves while the people struggle to meet basic needs.

“As local government areas and first layer of government, be creative, explore areas of cooperation, and complement yourselves for bigger accomplishments. Importantly, please prove to the people that you truly deserve to occupy this esteemed office. I wish you all the best, ladies and gentlemen”, he added.

The governor, however, congratulated the new council chiefs, their families, party leaders, community stakeholders, and everyone who played different roles in their emergence.

On his part, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the state, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, commended the state’s people for their support and the Governor for his statesmanship and commitment to public good.

He said, “This is a great moment. We have just cemented the foundation laid for the good of Kwara. We are thankful to the Kwarans for their support. The agenda is to develop Kwara and take the state to the next level,” according to the party chairman.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Majeed Bolakale Podo, the Ilorin South chairman, promised that they would work hard for the people’s good.

The inauguration was attended by the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu and other principal officers; Chief Judge Ayodele Adebara; Grand Kadi Abdullateef Kamaldeen; Secretary to the State Government Prof. Mamman Saba Jubril; Chief of Staff Prince Abdulkadir Mahe and other cabinet members; APC Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi; and many government officials and party elders.

The Informant247 had earlier reported that following the Local Government elections held on September 21, 2024, the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) on Sunday declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winners of the just concluded council polls.

Mr Mohammad Baba-Okanla, the Chairman of the Commission, while announcing the results at the KWSIEC headquarters in Ilorin in the early hours today, disclosed that APC won all sixteen Local Government Area chairmanship positions and all the one hundred and ninety-three councillorship seats in elections which saw five political parties; APC, APM, PDP, SDP and Accord participating in the exercise.

The Chairman commended political parties for their commitment to a peaceful election and the people of Kwara State for trooping out en-masse to exercise their civic rights while also appreciating the security agencies for ensuring peace and orderliness throughout the voting process professionally.
