AbdulRazaq extends lockdown in Kwara as cases rise to 11
The Executive Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has extended the lockdown in the the state by an additional 14 days to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country.
AbdulRazaq had, on April 2, ordered the lockdown for an initial period of 14 days.
The Governor, who made the announcement in a statement released by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Thursday, maintained that the internal restrictions of vehicular movements in the state remain in force while the government steps up measures to gradually lift the restrictions and rejuvenate the economy, including mandatory use of face masks which would soon be distributed.
“The lockdown for another two weeks is to reduce the number of cases. As you can see, Kano is going up, Lagos is going up. Even in Kwara, we have two more new cases. So, there is need for boundaries to lockdown. Essentially, each state has different policies on lockdown but we want to ensure that people are not moved across boundaries to transmit the virus,” he said.
He added that face masks would be mass-produced by indigenous tailors who have already been briefed.
Recall that the 36 state governors at a meeting held on Wednesday had agreed to implement inter-state lockdown to contain the community spread of the coronavirus in the country.
