AbdulRazaq, Danladi mourn ex-Kwara deputy governor

The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Speaker of the State Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu have mourned the death of a former deputy governor in the state and Asiwaju of Igosun land, Chief (Deacon) Simon Adedeji Sayomi.

Sayomi, the deputy to late governor Mohammed Lawal, died on Wednesday at his residence, at the age of 94.

AbdulRazaq in a statement by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye said, “The Governor received the news of the death of His Excellency the former Deputy Governor Adedeji with sadness but with total submission to the dictate of the Almighty God who gives and takes life. The Governor recalled that Deacon Adedeji was a perfect gentleman, a bridge builder, a community leader, and a respectable statesman who served the state well. He was indeed an inspiration, given his role in one of the earliest efforts to free our people from the shackles of political demagoguery.

“Baba Sayomi was until his death a major supporter of the Otoge administration. On behalf of his family, the people and government of Kwara State, the Governor commiserated with the people of Igosun on the death of the Asiwaju of Igosunland and the family and political associates of His Excellency. He prayed the Almighty to repose the soul of the deceased and comfort his family.”

Also, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu Danladi described the death of the former governor as a great loss.

“It is with a heavy heart that we receive news of the demise of our father and elderly statesman, His Excellency, Deacon Simon Sayomi, a former Deputy Governor of Kwara state and a one of the guidance and strong pillar of support to the OTOGE revolution that renewed the hope of a greater Kwara,” Danladi-Salihu said in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media Ibrahim Sheriff. “As much as we will love to have him around for his wise counsel on the progress of the State, we take a in the fact that he lived a worthy and fulfilling life, and left legacies that would outlive him.”

The statement added, “On behalf of the 9th Kwara state House of Assembly, I commiserate with Kwarans, particularly the good people of Igosun and the immediate family of the deceased
