Abakaliki FC’s bus involved in accident on return journey after Federation Cup loss to Kwara United

The Abakaliki FC bus, which was carrying officials and team members following their recent appearance in the President Federation Cup final, was involved in a minor accident on Sunday on the Benin-Ore expressway as they returned to Ebonyi State.

The club, still recovering from their narrow 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to Kwara United, confirmed the incident in a statement released on their Facebook page.

The statement revealed that the bus experienced brake failure, leading to a collision with a moving truck near Ondo.

Fortunately, the club reported that there were no injuries or fatalities as a result of the incident. The statement expressed gratitude, saying, “To God be the glory, no injury and no life was lost.”

Details from the club’s announcement indicated, “On our way back from Lagos after our yesterday’s President Federation Cup finals to Ebonyi State today (29/6/2025), one of our vehicles (official’s bus) failed brake along Ondo express highway and hit a moving truck at the back. We thank God, we all are safe and sound. To God be the glory!”

The club also shared photos showing the minor damages sustained by the bus. This incident follows a tragic event where 21 athletes from Kano lost their lives while returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

Currently at the bottom of Group B in this season’s Nigeria National League (NNL), Abakaliki FC made a commendable run to the Federation Cup final, overcoming notable teams like Enyimba along the way.
