9 persons die in Abuja fatal crash, FRSC advises against night trips

ABUJA, Nigeria, September 4 (The Informant247) – Nine persons have been reported dead and ten others sustained various degrees of injuries in a fatal crash at Yangoji-Abaji road, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Bisi Kazeem, confirmed this news via a statement on Sunday in Abuja, the country capital.

Kazeem revealed that the crash involved a Toyota Hiance Bus with vehicle registration number KTG-450 KQ and Howo Sino truck took place along Yangoji-Abaji road at about 6:05 a.m. on Sunday.

He said the bus departed from Osun while moving to Katsina State, but unfortunately collided with a stationary Trailer.

“Twenty-two people were involved in the crash. They were all males. Ten were injured and nine were killed. First aid was given to two.

“The FRSC recovered N3,170, six bags and four mobil phones.

“The rescue was a joint team of zebra 6 Yangoji, zebra 6, 16 Abaji and police. However, the injured victims taken to general hospital, Abaji by zebra 16 and police on patrol.

“While the nine corpses were deposited at a mortuary in General Hospital, Kwali, Abuja and the Nigerian Police Force, (NPF) Kwali division has taken over the investigation,” he said.

Kazeem quoted the Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, as saying that the crash was as a result of dangerous overtaking.

Dauda Biu has revealed that crashes at night were more dangerous than day time.

He said that the corps would multiply its commitment via often engagement of the motorists nationwide.

He said this can be achieved via aggressive awareness and sensitisation campaign, until the great result is achieved.

The Acting Corps Marshal has advised owners of vehicles to make sure that their vehicles were in order before embarking on journey, to avoid crashes on the road, especially at night. (NAN)
