75 road projects completed in Q3 2024, says Kwara govt

The Kwara State, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, has disclosed that it has made significant progress in infrastructural development during the third quarter of 2024.

According to Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, at the Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the Kwara State Ministry of Communications, no fewer than 75 major projects including the rehabilitation of critical roads such as the secretariat-Lafiagi township road, Wahab Folawiyo Unity road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Omu-Aran- Oko road, 10m Span Bridge at Omipa Odo-Ashe Road, Asa-Dam lower road, Offa Eid Praying ground – Olofa Palace Way- Federal Polytechnic Gate, aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity across the State, has successfully completed.

The Commissioner explained that 52 projects are ongoing, including the construction of a flyover at Unity Roundabout, the post office- Emir’s Road, and the rehabilitation of Ibrahim Taiwo Road. He described these initiatives as part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to boosting infrastructural development, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for all residents of Kwara State.

According to Olododo, “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration is steadfast in its commitment to transforming Kwara State by providing vital road infrastructure and balanced rural and urban development. These initiatives are designed not only to enhance connectivity and ease of movement but also to serve as a foundation for accelerated industrial growth. By prioritising Infrastructural development, the Kwara State Government aims to create new economic opportunities, attract investments, and improve the quality of life for all residents, ensuring that the socio-economic well-being of every citizen in Kwara State continues to thrive.”

Represented by Engr Mashood Akanbi, the Director of the Civil Engineering department, Engr. Olododo also disclosed that it had expanded the operations of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) to Offa Local Government Area to ensure effective traffic control in other parts of the state, adding that new patrol vehicles and motorcycles for both KWARTMA and the Vehicle Inspection Unit of the Ministry have been purchased to improve traffic control, ensure compliance with road safety rules and reduce delays in busy areas.

Olododo, while describing the Ministry of Works and Transport as a key arm of the State Government established to drive infrastructural development and promote enhanced transportation systems across the State, also commended Kwara State Fire Service for its improved emergency response efforts, having responded to 22 calls during the quarter and saved over ₦17 billion in property. The service also acquired new firefighting equipment, including a truck and a flying boat, to enhance its ability to manage emergencies and safeguard lives and properties.
