36-yr-old man in court for allegedly stealing rechargeable light, pair of shoe
A man, Seun Odupitan, was on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of a rechargeable light and a pair of shoes worth N33,000.
The 36-year-old Odupitan, whose address of residence was not disclosed, is standing trial of a two-count charge of illegal possession of police camouflage uniform and stealing.
When the matter was read to the defendant, he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Insp Ajayi Emmanuel, who’s the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant carried out the offences around 1.00 a.m. on October 31 in the Ikorodu area of the state.
Emmanuel revealed that Odupitan dispossessed one James Oluwadamilare of a rechargeable light valued at N15,000 and a pair of shoes valued at N18,000 totalling N33,000.
He also said that the offences were in contravention of the Section 280 and Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecutor also informed the court that the defendant was alleged to have been in possession of a pair of police camouflage uniform and could not explain satisfactorily the reason for his action.
Emmanuel also added that the offence is in contravention of the Section 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Mrs O. I. Raji, who’s the Magistrate, has adjourned the matter until November 18 for further hearing.
