300 girls trained on menstrual hygiene management in Bauchi
No fewer than 300 school girls are being trained on Menstrual Hygiene Management, the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (BASUBEB), said on Thursday.
The lead facilitator of the programme, Mrs Halima Maigari, said the exercise was to equip the participants with basic information to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the menstrual cycle.
She said the participants would also be trained on the use of local materials for personal hygiene during the menstrual period.
She said that 25 girls were selected from post basic schools in Alkaleri, Shira, Zaki, Ganjuwa, Ningi, and Toro Local Government Areas of the state.
“SUBEB with support of the UNICEF is training 300 girls on menstrual hygiene management.
“This is to provide the girls with information on how to take care of themselves during monthly menstruation and still remain in school,” she said.
Maigari said the girls would be exposed to the simple method of recycling pad, adding that menstruation was not a barrier to girl child education.
According to her, the exercise will be run in two batches between Jan. 29 and Feb. 6, adding that participants were expected to step-down the training to their peers. (NAN)
