30-year-old security guard arraigned for allegedly stealing groceries

A 39-year-old security guard, Wilfred Ebiotu, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing groceries valued at N106,260 from his employer.

Ebiotu, a resident of Igando in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police prosecutor, Insp. Funmi Akinleye, alleged that the defendant stole 50kg rice, one 25kg rice, Chivita Juice, malt and groundnut oil, worth of N106, 260, property of Hubmart Superstore Ltd.

Akinleye told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on Dec. 6 at 7.00 a.m. at No. 12, Akibu Busari St., Phase 1, Igando, Lagos.

She submitted that the chief security guard suspected the defendant to have stolen the items after some items were missing in the warehouse.

The magistrate, Mrs O. Oladele, admitted the defendant to N50, 000 bails with one surety in like sum.

Oladele ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State government.

The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan. 31 for hearing. (NAN)
