3 artisans sentenced to death by hanging for murder in Kwara

In a significant ruling, three artisans have been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of their colleague, Saheed Lawal, in Offa Community, Kwara State. The judgment was handed down by Justice Adebayo Yusuf at the State High Court No. 8 in Ilorin.

The convicted individuals—Isiaka Jimoh, Lekan Ahmed, and Adebayo Saheed—were found guilty of the crime that transpired on November 5, 2020, at a mechanic workshop near the Government Day Secondary School in Amuyo, Offa.

Their prosecution was led by the Kwara State Ministry of Justice, with a four-count charge filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ayoola Akande, in February 2022. The artisans faced serious charges, including conspiracy and culpable homicide, both of which are punishable by death under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Kwara State.

Additionally, the defendants were accused of attempting to commit culpable homicide by pouring hot red pepper into another artisan’s ears, Hamzat Ibrahim, at the same location. The court’s decision underscores the serious stance taken against violent crimes within the community.
