27-yr-old man appears in court over attempt to rape 54-yr-old woman
Ebong Ime, 27, who reportedly attempted to rape a 54-year-old woman in her house, appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Tuesday.
The suspect whose address was not disclosed, is tried over a three-count charge of sexual assault, damage to property and attempted rape.
Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, the Police Prosecutor, informed the court that the suspect carried out the offences on Oct. 11, at 02:40 a.m. at Block 5, Flat 18, Games Village, Surulere, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that the suspect stormed the apartment of the 54-year-old woman through the window, with the aim of having carnal knowledge of her.
He also added that the neighbours who heard noises originating from the house of the 54-year-old woman, came out to saved her from the accused and handed him over to the police.
The prosecutor added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 262, 263 (1) (2) and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the offences of which be has been charged.
Mrs M. I Dan-Oni, who’s the magistrate, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She has adjourned the case until Nov. 23, for further mention.
