25-yr-old man, minor appear in court for allegedly smoking marijuana

Jibrin Inusa, a jobless man and a minor on Friday appeared in an Abuja court for allegedly smoking dried weed which was suspected to be marijuana.

The 25-year-old Inusa was charged by the police with membership of a gang of thieves.

Mr Olanrewaju Osho, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the defendants on Sept. 28 were discovered suspiciously moving about with the aim of committing felony around the Nyanya area of the FCT.

Osho revealed that the defendants were caught smoking dried weed which was suspected to be Indian hemp thereby making the environment unsafe.

He also said during the investigation of the police, some wraps of the substance were discovered with them and the defendants could not make a defence for what they were caught doing.

He also said the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of Section 192 of the Penal Code.

When the matter was read to the defendants, he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Malam Hassan Mohammed, who presided over the matter granted Inusa the sum of N20, 000 bail plus one surety in like sum and directed that the minor be remanded in the police custody.

Mohammed directed that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, make provision for National I.D card, which must be kept in the court.

The judge has adjourned the matter until November 8 for mention.
