2027: Peter Obi is ADC’s biggest asset — Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has described Peter Obi as the most valuable figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the former Labour Party presidential candidate is solely responsible for the party’s growing relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fayose made the remarks during an interview with Arise News Channel scheduled to air on Monday, where he stressed that Obi’s presence has transformed the ADC into a party of national significance.

According to Fayose, while other political figures may be associated with the ADC, Obi remains the only individual giving the party real political traction.

“Obi is the only traction. Obi is the only meaning, Obi is the only factor, Obi is the only person in ADC that matters,” Fayose said, adding that Obi’s involvement has elevated the opposition party’s visibility and influence.

Speaking further on the state of the opposition, Fayose said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could no longer be regarded as Nigeria’s dominant opposition party due to persistent internal crises. He rejected suggestions that the PDP’s decline was orchestrated by President Bola Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing the party’s struggles to internal disunity.

“You must be very honest. When you are weak, tendencies are there for you to fall to the right of the stronger side,” Fayose said, describing the PDP as “a house that is divided against itself.”

He also noted that many of the politicians linked with the ADC were “largely spent forces,” insisting that Peter Obi remains the central figure to watch as the 2027 election approaches.
