2027: I remain in PDP – Saraki denounces ADC’s coalition
In a bid to clarify ongoing speculations surrounding coalition talks, Dr. Bukola Saraki, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held a closed-door meeting with party stakeholders in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday.
Before the media was asked to leave the meeting at his GRA residence, Saraki took the opportunity to reassure party members about the current political climate. “I’m here as a democrat whose people have asked to clarify a number of issues about the party.
You have all been observing what’s happening at the national level and you want to know the situation. I owe you that, to come down and explain to you,” he stated.
He further addressed rumors surrounding his involvement in any coalition efforts, saying, “You’re all aware of innuendoes making the rounds about what I know and what I don’t know. I believe I must come and let you hear from the horse’s mouth, so you can know the true position of the matter. I don’t have anything to do with the ADC and have not told anybody to join the coalition.”
Saraki urged members to prioritize the upcoming continuous voter registration exercise beginning on August 18, 2025, while commending their commitment during the recent membership revalidation. He encouraged active participation in party dynamics.
Reinforcing Saraki’s sentiments, PDP Chairman in the state, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, strongly dismissed any notions of coalition involvement, asserting, “The PDP is intact in Kwara State. We are not part of any coalition. PDP remains the only opposition party in the country, and we are confident of victory in the next general elections.”
Mohammed shared important updates regarding the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the state congress, revealing that nomination forms for the State Executive Council would be priced at N1 million for chairmanship positions and N20,000 for ward executive roles.
Additionally, State Publicity Secretary Olushola Adewara urged members to refrain from engaging with coalition groups, stating, “In case you are invited by any coalition, shun such engagement. The PDP is one under our leader and former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who has shown uncommon leadership in keeping the party united and focused on 2027.”
