2027: Fresh setback for LP as another reps member exit party
The lawmaker representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Nkemkanma Kama, has officially announced his departure from the Labour Party.
In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of the party in Amaze Ward, Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area, Kama explained his decision came after extensive consultations with family, political associates, and well-wishers.
He stated, “After careful consideration, I concluded that this step was necessary for the greater good of my people.”
Kama, who secured his seat in 2023 under the Labour Party banner, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the party leadership and members, particularly in Abia State, for their support during his election campaign. “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Labour Party for the platform given to me to contest and win the last general election as the House of Representatives member under its banner,” he noted in his letter.
Although Kama did not specify the party he plans to join next, there are indications he may align himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision comes in light of a recent leadership crisis within the Labour Party that has seen several stakeholders departing for other political affiliations.
