2027 coalition movement: ‘You’re hungry for power, not food’ – Wike slams Amaechi

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sharply criticized former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over his recent remarks regarding hunger in Nigeria.

The comments came during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, where Wike asserted that Amaechi is not truly hungry for food, but rather for political power.

Amaechi had made headlines last week during his 60th birthday celebration, stating, “We’re all hungry, all of us are. If you’re not hungry, I am.” He suggested that the opposition is willing to remove the man in power, reflecting on the broader economic challenges faced in the country.

In response, Wike fired back, saying, “We have no time to listen to nonsense in Nigeria. I don’t understand why a man like Amaechi would choose his 60th birthday to lie to Nigerians about being hungry.”

He went on to detail Amaechi’s long political history, highlighting that during his tenure as Speaker, Governor, and Minister, Amaechi never publicly addressed hunger until now.

Wike emphasized, “Now they are regrouping. They are only hungry for power. How can you trivialize the issue of hunger?” He further questioned Amaechi’s ability to unite the opposition, saying Nigerians remember the past political struggles and criticizing any notions of a military coup to remove the president.

In closing, Wike proclaimed, “I am not a liability; I am an asset. You may dislike me, but I am an asset in ensuring President Tinubu wins a second term.”
