2026 budget: FG earmarks N115bn to reintegrate ‘transformed’ ex-militants
A N115 billion has been earmarked by the federal government in the 2026 proposed budget for the reintegration of “transformed” ex-militants under the presidential amnesty programme.
The presidential amnesty programme (PAP) is an initiative aimed at reintegrating former agitators into society and fostering sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.
The allocation, captured as an ongoing project, is provided for under the service-wide vote, a unit domiciled in the ministry of budget and economic planning, forming part of the N9.1 trillion budget allocated to the ministry of budget and economic planning in the 2026 appropriation bill.
The bill also makes provision for the budget office of the federation and other items under the service-wide vote, including the presidential amnesty programme.
The Informant247 reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on December 19, 2025, presented the N58.18 trillion 2026 federal budget tagged ‘Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity’, before the national assembly, earmarking N5.41 trillion for defence and security — about 9.3 percent of total spending, saying investment cannot thrive without security.
The president said the 2026 budget reflects the administration’s determination to lock in macroeconomic stability, deepen competitiveness, and ensure growth benefits all Nigerians.
On December 23, 2025, the senate passed the 2026 appropriation bill for second reading.
