2023: Sports Minister rejects calls to contest elective posts, says “I want to serve out my term“,

Following the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that all Ministers who are seeking elective positions in the next general elections should resign from their positions, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development has rejected calls to throw in his hat to the ring of electionering.

The Ogbomoso born politician while reacting to the call said he prefers to complete his terms as a Minister.

“The assignment given to me on behalf of the Nigerian people by President Muhammadu Buhari is national and an important one for the development of our youth and sports. I have in the last three years been committed to bringing about far reaching changes in these areas. Noble initiatives and policies are about to be delivered in these sectors. It is my desire to stand down and assist Mr. President complete and to leave a lasting legacy in the areas of Youth and Sports Development for Nigeria”.  Said Dare.

The Minister, who among many other things has shown desire to change the trend of Sports from recreational to business has also had to deal with couple of controversies surrounding the leadership of Sporting federations.

“The APC equally has a Presidential election battle ahead to which I will make available my skills and experience like I did in 2014 and 2015 to help our party win the Presidency” he stressed

Professor Emeka Nwajuiba, the Minister of State for Education is among many other office holders who have resigned from there positions given their ambitions to contest elective posts.
