2023: I’ll ensure LGAs get autonomy – Kwara NNPP Senatorial Candidate, Dr Kolo Jiya
The NNPP Senatorial Candidate in Kwara North, Dr Kolo Jiya, has promised to ensure that all the Local government areas in the country get the autonomy.
He said that Local Government autonomy will help the country to develop and put an end to the prevalent insecurity.
Speaking with the online media practitioners on Monday, in Kwara State under the aegis of the professional body, the Association of Kwara State Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), Jiya expressed optimism in winning at the much anticipated 2023 general elections.
He expatiated convincing ideas he had to develop his constituency when elected.
He said he was optimistic that NNPP will replace both PDP and APC “because the people are tired of fake promises and bad governance.”
Dr Jiya while answering questions from the online journalists, described his party NNPP as new baby that needed to be nurtured carefully.
He said, “I am contesting for Senate under a party that is relatively new. I am motivated by the calibre of people in this party. We are all committed to doing the best for our people and we are sure of victory in 2023”.
According to him, when a government is not doing well, the right thing to do is to vote out such government by the people.
He stated just like his party, he is also new in politics but have served in the Custom Service for 35 years.
“I retired from active service of Nigeria Customs after 35 years. I first went to private business and I have upto 200 staff some of whom are Kwarans. I desire to help more people so I joined politics. My intentions are clear and I am ready and prepared to give it my all for my people to enjoy the dividend of democracy due to them. I will work assiduously everyday to ensure I improve the wellbeing of the people. I will not leave any stone unturned,” he explained.
The retired customs officer said he wouldn’t want to condemn anyone but will prefer objective observation of things in kwara North and Kwara State as a whole.
He added, “Our party NNPP, is very confident that Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem will have a landslide victory over APC because Prof has what it takes to rule Kwara and reposition it for a better and more efficient State.
“There are claims that I wanted to join APC or PDP.. It is not true. Although I have friends from both parties. We still talk and have fun together but I have never for once joined any of them. Nowadays, people don’t believe Mega Parties, they only want to vote for individuals who have integrity and will give good representation.
“NNPP is a party God wants to use to rebuild this State. We will not promise and run away. Somebody like me, I lived all my life in my village while growing up. I farm, shooled there. I know my people, and they know me too. I know what is best for them.
“My priorities if I am the choice of the people will centre on the youth and children. To solve the problem of unemployment and poverty, we will need to be deliberate about motions and bills that will address these menace.”
Jiya, however, called on the people of Kwara North to try something new and different, admonishing them to vote for NNPP in the coming election in the interest of the senatorial district as well as kwara State.
Meanwhile, in his closing remark, the Financial Secretary of ASKOMP who doubles as the Editor of InsiderNg, Nafiu Toyin Abdulqadri thanked Dr Jiya for the honour of appearing on the ASKOMP Media Parley, assuring him that the association will continue to adhere strictly to every ethic that promote unity, peace and progress during and after the elections.
The Association Vice Chairman, AbdulRazaq Babatunde Aiyelabegan (CEO of Just event online) and Financial Secretary, Nafiu Toyin Abdulkadir led about 20 members to the Media Parley held at Golden Sand Hotel in Ilorin, the state capital.
