A former diplomat, Joe Keshi, has revealed that newly elected lawmakers produced by the Labour Party, LP, will defect from the party to bigger parties in Nigeria.
The Informant247 recalls that the party secured six senatorial seats and more than 30 seats in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly.
This has been described, by some political analysts, as a new development in the Nigerian politics.
The former diplomat, Dr. Keshi viewed the development from a different angle, as he said the winners can be bought by bigger political parties.
“Don’t be surprised that those that won those seats from the Labour Party would be bought over to join the other parties,” he said while granting television interview.
“What would have changed the dynamics of Nigerian politics would have been if this election had gone on well and results properly announced and a new leader emerged. But as it is now, I do not agree that the dynamics have changed.
“We’ll still continue with what we have in the past. And come four years from now it’s still going to be the same if we don’t get it right based on the judgement of the Court judgement.”
The Chairman of the electoral commission said the newly elected federal lawmakers would receive their certificates on March 7, and 8.
The senators would receive theirs on March 7 while lawmakers in the House of Representatives would receive theirs on March 8.
He also said victors of 423 legislative seats had been announced and that supplementary elections were to take place in 46 constituencies.
It was gathered that 98 out of the 109 senators-elect have been announced while 325 out of the 360 House of Representatives members-elect have been declared winners.
“Senators/House of Reps-elect to receive certificates on 7th, 8th March respectively,” the INEC chairman said.
