2 men remanded over alleged possession of  720kg of marijuana

A Kaduna Federal High Court on Thursday directed that two men be remanded in a correction facility over alleged possession of 720kg of Marijuana (Cannabis Sativa).

28 year old Khalid Ibrahim, and 30 year old Richard Thomas were charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with possession of illicit drugs and conspiracy.

Justice Mohammed Garba, gave this directive following the plea of the NDLEA Counsel, Mr T. J. Atserhegh, that the court should remand the defendants till it determines the charge against them.

Garba has adjourned the case until November 29 for ruling.

The prosecutor earlier informed the court that defendants and others on October 16, at Kawo area of Kaduna, had a conspiracy among themselves and involved in 720 kg of marijuana.

The prosecutor also said that the offence was in contravention of the provisions of sections 241 and 11(c) of these NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.

When the matter to the defendant, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Moses Adams, who’s Counsel to the defendants, persuaded the court to give his clients bail.

The Informant247 learnt that the offence of drug trafficking deserves a term of life imprisonment on conviction.
