2 men in court over alleged possession of firearm in Abuja

Two men on Thursday appeared before a court over alleged possession of local firearm with no licence.

They were arraigned before an Upper Area Court, in Karu, Abuja over alleged possession of local firearm with no licence.

Mansur Yinusa and Abdullahi Mohammed were charged by the police with possession of firearm and criminal conspiracy.

Mr Edwin Ochayi, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the defendants were apprehended by police officers who were led by ASP Stephen Ayodele connected to the Karu Divisional Police station.

When the matter was read to them, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the offence.

He added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 97 (2) of the penal code and 27(1) (ci)of the firearms act.

Malam Hassan Mohammed, who presided over the matter granted the defendants the sum of N200, 000 bail each plus one surety each in like sum.

Mohammed directed that the surety must live within the Court’s jurisdiction and address must be subjected to the verification of a court officer.

He has adjourned the matter until December 2 for further hearing.
