15 filling stations offer petrol at N430/liter in Borno as Lawmaker initiates fuel price relief
In response to the increasing economic challenges brought about by the removal of fuel subsidies by the federal government, Hon. Ahmed Satomi, the representative of Jere federal constituency in Borno State, has taken a commendable initiative to ease the financial burden on his constituents.
He has collaborated with 15 filling stations in Jere local government and the Maiduguri metropolis to provide Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at the affordable rate of N430 per liter as part of his personal efforts to provide relief.
Given the prevailing official petrol prices, which range between N630 to N637 per liter, the financial strain on motorists and residents has become substantial.
Hon. Satomi, who also chairs the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence in the national assembly, has demonstrated his commitment to this cause, launching this palliative measure on September 2, 2023.
During the inaugural weekend, 100,000 liters of petrol were made available to motorists and residents, regardless of their political affiliations.
Hon. Satomi’s decision to collaborate with his committee and the contracted filling stations, including establishments such as G-Nile, select NNPC mega stations, Total, and Bamus Oil, aims to ensure the convenience of the public.
The lawmaker also extended an earnest call to individuals of means and organizations to emulate this compassionate initiative.
He emphasized that palliative efforts should not be solely reliant on the government and should instead reflect a collective responsibility to enhance the well-being of all Nigerians.
Explaining the implementation of this initiative in phases, Hon. Satomi outlined the details of its commencement. “My committee, under the leadership of Hon. Abba Kolo Kyari, a member of the Borno State House of Assembly representing Jere Local Government, has overseen the initial phase, distributing 37,500 liters of petroleum products at the reduced price of N430 per liter, a stark contrast to the government’s N637,” he explained.
He further disclosed that the subsequent phase of this initiative would involve the distribution of approximately 62,500 liters at selected outlets and central filling stations, including Bamus Oil on Custom Road, NNPC filling station on Damboa Road, G-Nile filling station on Bulunkutu Road, and Mufimai Innami on Muna Road.
Hon. Satomi expressed his unwavering dedication to this cause, vowing to continue these efforts until the target of providing 100,000 liters at subsidized rates for the people is achieved.
In closing, he urged individuals and organizations with the capacity to follow his lead and contribute to the collective well-being of all Nigerians, reinforcing the significance of solidarity during these challenging times.
