10 kiosks affected as fire razes shops at Challenge phone village in Ilorin

No fewer than 10 kiosks were on Wednesday night destroyed by fire outbreak reported to have been engulfed by 120 shops, 80 kiosks, and numerous stands at the Challenge Phone Village, located within Challenge Market, Ilorin.

According to a statement by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, the inferno caused by a power surge, was successfully contained by the firefighters who promptly responded to a distress call at about 9:06 pm.

“Through swift intervention, professionalism, and tactical expertise, our team successfully curtailed the spread of the fire, limiting its impact to only 10 kiosks.

“The affected areas were primarily phone stores and repair shops.

Meanwhile, traders and market stakeholders have lauded the State Fire Service for their rapid response and effectiveness in saving the market from widespread destruction.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, however, expressed his sympathy to the market leadership, affected traders, and the entire market community, while praying that all losses incurred in the incident would be divinely restored in multiple folds.
