Kwara govt spent N.42m on pictures of Government High School, Adeta project – Report
The Kwara State Government spends the total sum of N428,071.80 on taking pictures of Government High School Adeta as the school’s renovation progressed, a report by Kwara-based Civil Society Organisation, Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD) has disclosed.
The CSO had, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Lateef Alagbonsi, accused the state government of inflating the cost of renovating Government High School, Ilorin by over N40.5 million.
It stated that its re-calculation of the Bill of Quantities, a document detailing the amount spent on each item in a construction project, shows that the accurate contract sum “was supposed to be N321,427,233 as against the N361,957,439 approved by the Ministry of education”.
Responding to this accusation, the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development said the items the group described as inflated are statutory.
However, the CSO in another statement on Thursday released the breakdown of over N40 million which it said was expended on ‘irrelevant items’.
The items include – Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation N4,081,590.36; Project Design and Production of BoQ N1,723,368.66; Progress Photographs N428,071.80; Project Labelling N735,000; Contract Administration N125,000; Project Vetting N5,580,000; 3% Development Levy and 5% Withholding Tax N25,418,159.56; Repetition of General Contingency, Preliminary, and Monitoring and Evaluation at the end of the BoQ Summary N2,749,165.
