Zone Ilorin West chairmanship slot to our constituency, Magaji Ngeri elders beg APC
The Magaji Ngeri All Progressive Congress Elders Forum has called on the Kwara State leadership of the All Progressives Congress to zone the Local Government chairmanship slot of the party to Magaji Ngeri constituency.
The forum stated that since the governor had picked most of his appointees from other districts, including elected officials, it would be fair if the chairmanship position is shifted to Magaji Ngeri.
This was contained in a statement jointly issued by the chairman, Alhaji Kawu Fada and secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Ahmed of the forum, on Monday.
Specifically, the party forum said Ilorin West-Central also Magaji Ngeri constituency has been neglected in both elective and appointive positions by the party and government.
The statement said, “Historical, Ilorin West Local Government is subdivided into two constituencies namely Ilorin West North (Ajikobi-Alanamu) constituency and Ilorin West Central (MagajiNgeri) constituency.
“Whereas, Ilorin West Central constituency consists of five (5) wards namely; Baboko, Magajingeri, Oko_Erin, Badari and Wara Osin Egbejil ward.
“It is worth mentioning that Ilorin West North constituency consists of seven (7) wards namely; Ajikobi, Alanamu, Sarumi Ojuekun, Oloje, Ogidi, Adewole and Ubandawaki ward.
“As at today, Ilorin West-North Constituency has the position of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, A Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, A Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, the commissioner for education representing Ilorin West Local Government, a Special Assistant to the Governor, atleast chairmanship of two state owned parastatals, some members of some state owned parastatals, the state secretary of the party and party Local Government chairman.
“Whereas, the twin constituency otherwise known as Ilorin West/Central constituency has only a special assistant to the Executive Governor and a board membership position of IVTEC, apart from the house of assembly seat statutorily provided for by each constituency.”
The forum urged the APC and governor to look towards Magaji Ngeri, noting that the ward contributed immensely to the party’s success during the last general elections.
The statement added, “It is worth mentioning that the executive governor of Kwara State in his right sense of judgment has done justice to the cry of marginalization of Kwara North by other parts of Kwara; it will be fair to look at the unfortunate plight of our constituency and redress it by ensuring the zoning of the chairmanship to our constituency with other key political appointments, as we have tested, trusted, competent and capable hands like our twin constituency who can be given position of responsibility.
“We hereby appeal to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, the State Chairman of Kwara State Chapter, APC, the Chairman, Ilorin West Local Government Chapter, APC and other stakeholders within the party to zone the chairmanship position of Ilorin West to us; as we have written on behalf of and in the interest of our constituency, so that we will be remembered in history as having played our part.”
