Zamfara armed bandits relocating to Kwara

Amid intensified military operations and vigilante crackdowns in Zamfara State, armed bandits operating in Bukuyum Local Government Area (LGA) have reportedly relocated to Bani town in Kwara State, according to intelligence gathered from a captured insurgent.

According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst with an understanding of insurgency in the North-east, he said sources disclosed that the terrorist, apprehended in Kyaram community by vigilante forces, provided crucial intelligence on the current status and movements of the criminal group responsible for numerous attacks in the region.

The sources, according to him, revealed that the bandits have suffered significant losses, reducing their operational strength in Zamfara, but they still possess dangerous weapons and ammunition.

“Many of their fighters have either been neutralized or fled due to increased pressure from local vigilantes and security forces. However, their key leaders and remaining fighters have moved to Bani town in Kwara State, leaving behind a weakened structure in Bukuyum,” the captured insurgent reportedly confessed during interrogation.

He added that the migration of these insurgents to Kwara State poses a new security threat, necessitating increased surveillance and counterterrorism measures beyond Zamfara’s borders.
