‘You’ve made Nigeria proud with your stunning performance’ – Tinubu praises D’Tigress for reaching 2025 Afrobasket final

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the D’Tigress for their exceptional performance, which has brought honour to Nigeria during the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.

His commendation came after the team secured their place in the tournament’s final for the fifth consecutive time, following a hard-fought victory against Senegal, where they won 75-68 in the semi-finals held in Cote d’Ivoire.

Tinubu praised the team for their “discipline, focus and team spirit,” which were evident throughout the competition.

Reflecting on their impressive performance, the president stated, “The resilience and dominance displayed by D’Tigress are commendable. Their impeccable teamwork has made us all proud.”

He also recognized the remarkable leadership of Rena Wakama, the head coach, for her role in steering the team to success.

“Coach Wakama has inspired the team to reach new heights, and that has made a significant difference in their game,” Tinubu added.

As the D’Tigress prepare to face Mali in the final, set for Sunday at 7 pm, the president reassured them of his support in their bid for a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and a total of seven championships overall.

Nigeria remains unbeaten in the Women’s Afrobasket for the last decade, with their last loss dating back to October 2, 2015, against Cameroon. The nation is on the brink of making history as the first to clinch five consecutive titles in this prestigious tournament.
