‘Your mockery will not stand’ – Akpabio sues Natasha over ‘satirical’ apology
Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio has took a legal action against suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, accusing her of mocking him through a satirical apology she posted on social media.
The lawsuit, filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja under case number CS/384/25 and dated May 7, aims to compel Senator Natasha to remove the post from all her platforms.
Akpabio is also demanding that she issue a formal written apology in at least two national newspapers, along with an affidavit confirming compliance with these demands.
In her April 27 social media post, Senator Natasha addressed Akpabio with a pointed tone, stating, “Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio, It is with the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret that I tender this apology for the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect in your most exalted presence.”
She further critiqued the prevailing dynamics of legislative success, suggesting that it is often predicated on personal compliance rather than merit: “How remiss of me not to understand that my refusal to indulge your… ‘requests’ was not merely a personal choice, but a constitutional violation of the unwritten laws of certain men’s entitlement.”
Akpabio’s legal team, led by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, argues that Natasha’s comments violate a court order issued on April 4, which restricts both parties from making public statements regarding ongoing sexual harassment allegations until the case is resolved. The lawsuit highlights escalating tensions between the two senators amid an ongoing controversy.
