‘Why we started Durbar celebration in Ilorin’
The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has pointed out the importance of the Durbar festival in addressing cultural and social issues in Ilorin.
Alhaji AbdulMumini AbdulMalik, President of the union , revealed that the festival was introduced by the Emir of Ilorin as part of a broader cultural revival effort.
AbdulMalik explained that the Durbar aims to curb the negative influences of external cultures on local youth, fostering a sense of unity and encouraging positive social interactions.
He noted that the festival not only strengthens community bonds but also supports the local economy, particularly in tourism and hospitality sectors.
By offering a cultural alternative to un-Islamic and traditional carnivals, the Durbar serves as a constructive outlet for the youth, according to the social cultural group.
AbdulMalik also commended the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, for his comprehensive development efforts, which include enhancing Ilorin’s status as a state capital.
