A 19-year-old University of Ilorin student, Gbenga Favour Olaoye Akanbi popularly known as ‘Jasper’ committed suicide on Sunday over alleged 300million naira investment scam in forex.

Gbenga, a 300level student of Faculty of Agriculture died after consuming a snipper after he was said to have invested over 300 million naira into forex trading, having one Eseka Chukwutem Gospel as the boss he trades with.

In a WhatsApp voice note sent to The Informant247 by his colleague, Pelumi; she explained that Gbenga was a Middleman between his client and his boss known as  ESG.

She said:  “Jasper never told his clients he had a boss with the name ESG and vice versa,  his clients thought they were investing with him directly not until he was scammed before he came out to say he had a boss, he was the middleman.”

If he had been truthful to them all the way, may be, just may be it wouldn’t have turned out this way,  he might still be with us, I feel for his mother.”

In a video released on December 10 by the deceased via his verified  twitter handle, he explained that the money was below 200 million naira and the trading went on smoothly for over 15 weeks before it turned into a ponzi scheme and crashed. He promised to pay everyone their money back before December.
