We’ll support EFCC’s effort to rid Kwara of internet fraudster: Police
In ensuring zero tolerance for cybercrime and other forms of corruption, the Police in Kwara State have promised to support the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission – EFCC’s effort in the state.
The state Police Commissioner, Amienbo Tuesday Assayomo, during a visit to the Ilorin Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency in Ilorin on Tuesday, tasked the Zonal Commander to carry the police command along in his operations, saying it will give support and escorts if the need arises.
Assayomo, accompanied on the visit by top officers of the command, emphasized that collaboration is what is needed by security agencies of government to succeed in their mandate.
“I am here today, to build more on the already established mutual and cordial relationship between the Nigerian Police Force and the EFCC.
“It is a known fact, that crime fighting, is a critical assignment that requires the support of all stakeholders in the security sector,” the CP stated.
He said there was need for the two organisations to strengthen their ties, because, no organisation globally could fight crimes especially cybercrime, terrorism financing and money laundering alone, adding ” we need each other to succeed.”
Assayomo lamented the involvement of the youths in internet related fraud (cybercrime) and noted that corruption and other criminalities could only be won through collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies.
He used the visit to invite the Zonal Commander of the anti-graft agency, to join him in welcoming the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, who is billed to be in the state on Wednesday on a working visit.
Responding, the Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Usman Muktar, solicited the support of the state police command and other law enforcement agencies in tackling the menace of cybercrimes in the state, describing it as “worrisome”.
