Van Dijk fit for Norwich clash, extends contract till 2025
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been announced fit to face Norwich city on Saturday following his contract extension till 2025.
The 30-year old, due to knee injury was ruled out of competitive action since November 2020, missing the majority of last season. Having returned to training Van Dijk has signed fresh terms with Liverpool on Friday.
Manager Jurgen Klopp in a statement expressed how delighted it is to have Van Dijk back on track and has extended his contract for four more years following a difficult year.
“It’s great news. The good thing about this signing is we know him already,” Klopp told a press conference.
“It was very difficult last year, but he is back on track. Absolutely great, great news.
“Imagine we had to buy him now. Thank God we only have to give him a new contract.”
“He was out for a long time but has been training with the team for three-and-a-half weeks, which is great,”
“He played minutes in different games. He’s in good shape, is an important player for us and I’m really happy with the situation.” He added.
When asked about his expectations for the upcoming campaign, Klopp hinted Van Dijk could be thrown straight back into competitive action.
