UNIMAID remains safe: Authorities dismiss false ISWAP attack claims
Security agencies in Maiduguri have dismissed rumours of an alleged attack by ISWAP terrorists on the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), assuring the public that the campus remains safe.
According to security sources, the gunshots heard four days ago were not linked to any attack on UNIMAID.
Instead, they were the result of an attempted infiltration by ISWAP fighters in Ajilari, a community far from the university in Jere Local Government Area.
Troops quickly responded, engaging the insurgents, inflicting heavy losses on them, and recovering two rifles.
The situation was brought under control, and normalcy was restored.
Authorities have urged the public to ignore the misleading reports circulating on social media, emphasising that no attack occurred at the university.
“The entire area is safe and calm. Students and residents should be assured that security forces are in full control,” a military source said.
Residents and students have been advised to rely on verified sources for information and avoid spreading false claims that could cause unnecessary panic.
Security agencies have promised to provide updates if needed.
