Unified effort: Kwara police meet local security stakeholders, address security challenges

In a unified effort to combat insecurity across Kwara State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, convened a high-level strategic security meeting with key stakeholders on October 11, 2024, at the Police Officers Mess in Ilorin.

The meeting, which aimed to address growing security challenges, brought together representatives from the state’s 16 local government areas, traditional leaders, vigilante and local hunter groups, and the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor of Kwara State.

During the meeting, CP Olaiya emphasized the importance of collaboration between various local security outfits, including the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and groups such as the Meyetti Allah and Gaa Allah.

He stessed that unified efforts between these groups and the police are crucial in safeguarding communities from the rise of criminal activities like kidnapping.

CP Olaiya also cautioned security operatives against complicity, urging them to remain vigilant and honest in their duties.

He warned against colluding with criminals and stressed the need for thorough recruitment processes within the various local security groups.

This would involve conducting background checks to ensure recruits have no criminal ties, with the Kwara State Police Command providing specialized training afterward.

The local government representatives shared their concerns about security in their respective areas, and CP Olaiya assured them that their challenges would be reviewed and addressed promptly.

Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor, spoke on behalf of the Kwara State Government, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity.

He noted that the government has approved standardized uniforms for all security personnel under these groups to symbolize a unified front against crime.
