Unemployment: Sokoto govt sells vehicles to residents at subsidized rates

The Sokoto State Government has reiterated its commitment to combating youth unemployment and restiveness in the state through the sales of vehicles to residents at subsidized rates.

Announcing the purchase of 1,000 motorcycles and 500 tricycles via a post on his official X handle on Friday, the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, noted that the initiative will give a significant boost to intercity transportation in the State.

He wrote: “I am excited to announce a significant boost to intercity transportation in Sokoto with the purchase of 1,000 motorcycles and 500 tricycles”.

The initiative, according to him, aims to create job opportunities for the vibrant youth and address the pressing transportation needs of their growing city.

“These vehicles will be sold to residents at subsidized rates, allowing more people to access affordable transportation”, he stated.

The Governor explained that there is a manageable payment plan being put in place through which buyers will be able to acquire the newly purchased vehicles.

“Buyers will be able to acquire these motorcycles and tricycles through a manageable payment plan, starting with a deposit followed by monthly installments until the total cost is settled”.

He further added that, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to combat youth unemployment and restiveness in the state.

“In addition to improving transportation options, this move will complement the recent deployment of Toyota Camry vehicles and buses, which are already serving the Sokoto metropolitan area at reduced fares.

“This is crucial in light of the recent challenges posed by the removal of oil subsidies and the rising cost of living, which have affected transportation costs across the state.

Concluding the announcement on a stunning note, he said “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to improving the livelihoods of our people and ensuring that transportation remains accessible and affordable for all.

“We encourage all interested residents to take advantage of this opportunity.
