Two years after breaking world’s record of longest cooking hours, Hilda Baci begins attempt to cook biggest pot of jollof rice

Chef Hilda Baci is on a mission to achieve another remarkable culinary feat—cooking what she claims will be the “world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.”

The much-anticipated Gino World Jollof Festival with Hilda Baci kicked off on Friday at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, drawing an enthusiastic crowd.

Baci announced that more than 20,000 participants had registered for the event, which has attracted fans and fellow celebrities flocking to the venue. Long lines formed as attendees waited to verify their registrations, with security personnel working diligently to manage the bustling crowd.

The custom-made giant pot is an impressive six meters wide and six meters tall, capable of holding up to 22,619 liters of rice. Initially, Baci planned to use approximately 5,278 kilograms of rice, or around 264 bags, but later adjusted her target to 250 bags for the occasion.

“This is history in the making,” Chef Hilda stated, emphasizing that all guests would enjoy the massive servings at no cost.

In the days leading up to the festival, videos circulated of Hilda and her mother praying beside the giant pot, showcasing her commitment to the event.

In a humorous moment shared on social media, Baci climbed into the colossal cauldron to wash it herself, declaring, “Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean.

I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself.” She reassured her fans that the food would be “the most amazing, hygienic meal you’ve ever eaten.”

Looking back, Hilda reflected on how this ambition was born nearly two years ago, following her 100-hour cooking marathon that ignited national pride.

“Now, with you, that dream is coming alive,” she added. “Because what is jollof without you to share it with?”

After rising to fame for her previous culinary achievements, Baci hopes to once again make history with this colossal production of jollof rice, solidifying her status as a leading food influencer in Nigeria.
