Two rooms affected as power surge sparks early-morning fire in Ilorin
The Kwara State Fire Service has successfully contained an early-morning fire outbreak at Danialu Alapata Compound, off Gaa Akabi Area in Ilorin, preventing extensive damage to the building and nearby properties.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at about 2:11 a.m., when firefighters responded to a distress call reporting a fire in a bungalow comprising six rooms.
The fire affected two of the six rooms before firefighters brought the situation under control through what officials described as swift and gallant efforts, stopping the blaze from spreading to other parts of the building and surrounding structures.
Preliminary investigations by the fire service revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials inside the affected rooms.

He also stressed the importance of switching off electrical appliances when not in use, especially during periods of unstable power supply.
He further urged members of the public to report fire incidents promptly to enable timely emergency response.
The Kwara State Fire Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
