Truck accident kills 9 persons, injures 6 in Adamawa

Nine persons suspected to be roadside traders have lost their lives after a tipper lost control and knocked down the victims in Adamawa State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at Viniklan in Girei local government area, close to capital of the state, Yola.

A witness informed newsmen that some angry residents of the area descended on the tipper and set it ablaze.

“The incident happened around the Viniklang Junction along the Yola-Mubi highway just after the Jimeta bridge,” the witness said.

“As you know, that junction is always a bedlam of chaos because of the traffic buildup and the fact that motorists usually park indiscriminately,” the witness said.

Another witness revealed that he noticed that the driver of the tipper, who was moving in direction of Yola, must have attempted to reduce the casualty when he discovered that his brake was malfunctioning, by drecting the steering to the other side of the road where there were no many people at the moment of the tragedy.

It was gathered that from reliable security sources at the affected scene that nine persons lost their lives while six other persons sustained injuries.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) at the affected scene did not make a comment on the incident as at the press time.
