Abuja-Kaduna Highway is safe for people to travel by, IGP debunks rumour
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali has said that the rumours that Kaduna is no longer accessible due to attacks are not true.
While patrolling the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Saturday, he confirmed that more troops have been deployed to the Abuja-Kaduna to boost security, following Monday’s train attack by terrorists.
According to the police boss, an adequate arrangement has been made to secure the road against bandits.
Police reveals identities of gunmen who attacked Imo station
The Imo State Police Command has revealed the identities of gunmen who attacked the Mbieri Police Station in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
The command’s spokesman, Micheal Abattam, who spoke with journalists in Owerri on Saturday, said Solomon Umunakwu and Uzoma Umunakwe, both natives of Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA, are parts of those who masterminded the attack.
According to the PPRO, the suspects who are believed to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, are escapees of Imo Correctional Center following a jailbreak that occurred on April 5, 2021.
South-East was shortchanged, needs extra state: Ekweremadu
The senator representing Enugu West and former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Saturday, said that the South-East needed an extra state because the region was shortchanged.
He said that an extra state would enable the South-East to “match with the rest of the country in terms of opportunities and National Assembly.”
While speaking during a town hall meeting in Enugu State, Ekweremadu that the South-East was shortchanged in the area of resource control, adding that the region stood at a disadvantaged position in voting and resource distribution at the National Assembly.
Suspected cultist hacks father to death in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has said that a 27-year-old man, Sikiru Ibrahim, who is suspected to be a cultist, hacked his father, Mumuni Ibrahim, to death in the state.
Reacting to the incident, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, following a complaint lodged at the Onipanu police divisional headquarters by one Abiodun Sunday, a neighbour to the deceased.
According to him, the neighbour had informed the police that the deceased, Mumuni Ibrahim, who was until his death a nightguard, returned home and met his son still sleeping.

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello on Saturday, promised to make 20 million Nigerians millionaires if elected President in 2023.
While declaring his intention to run for the Presidency in 2023 at the Eagles Square in Abuja, he promised to build on the legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari by creating 20 millionaires in the country by 2030.
Bello disclosed that each of the 20 millionaires would empower five other Nigerians.
Massive defection hits APC as members dump party for SDP in Kwara
Members of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to the minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, popularly known as ‘APC loyal’ have announced their defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Speaking on behalf of the defecting members at the old APC factional secretariat, the Kwara-South Senatorial chairman of the “APC loyal” faction, Mr Rasak Alabi, said they have lost confidence in the chairmanship of the party led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu because of his allegiance to Governor AbdulRazaq.
He said, “Despite our endurance in the face of the inhuman treatment meted to us in the party, it will be correct to suggest that the Kwara State governor, working in tandem with the former National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mallam Mai Mala Buni has decided to edge us out of the party against our wish.

Lawmaker begs ASUU, FG to let students return to schools
A Lagos lawmaker, Mr. Rasheed Makinde, has advised the Federal Government and striking workers’ unions in Nigerian universities to resolve disagreements for students to return to school for academic activities.
