Tinubu’s minister emerges new APC National Chairman

Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has been appointed as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His emergence as chairman was announced during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

This change in leadership follows the resignation of former chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down last month citing health issues.

The NEC ratified Yilwatda’s appointment in what insiders described as a “consensus-driven decision” aimed at uniting the party ahead of significant political events, including upcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Edo, and Ondo states.

Yilwatda, a former governorship candidate in Plateau State, is respected within party circles for his loyalty and strong grassroots appeal, credentials that were key in his selection as a consensus candidate.

President Bola Tinubu presided over the NEC meeting, which was attended by notable figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, along with APC governors and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Yilwatda’s appointment is seen as a pivotal moment for the APC, marking the beginning of a new phase as the party seeks to navigate internal reforms and prepare for future electoral challenges.
